@andyj

I also noticed that the Services option in the ControlPanel app doesn't show open-vm-tools service as started although there is a
Code: [Select]

Hi SeventhSin
Try entering  services  at the command line and see if any errors are printed out.

I also noticed a difference between TinyCore and TinyCorePure64: on TinyCore, there is one extra service showing up as started in services: fuse (this one does not appear on TinyCorePure64).

For FAQ readers:

The author of our very own faq provides supremely useful information, and I thank him for that very much.  It's gotten me out of a jam a few times.

It is also apparent that he is aware of YUMI, but perhaps wasn't aware of the si...

Personally I don't see any advantage of 64bit on the Pi, but I have just installed Openwrt on a Pi3 and to my surprise it reports
Code: [Select]
root@OpenWrt:~# uname -a
Linux OpenWrt 4.9.152 #0 SMP Wed Jan 30 12:21:02 2019 aarch64 GNU/Linux

The main problem I'm having is that vmtoolsd, the program that provides copy/paste/resolution resizing/usb redirection, is a daemon that runs as root, whereas the mounts for the shared folders are through fuse and run as the logged in user. I could ass...

I'm not using X, am using 'sudo poweroff' and 'sudo reboot'. I guess neither command runs /opt/shutdown.sh. No problem--if I need backup before poweroff or reboot, I'll create a script that calls filetool.sh first.

Hi GNUser
That wasn't quite right. Make a file called  tcexit  for example:
[code]#!/bin/sh
#
# Usage:
# tcexit poweroff    Runs a backup and then shuts off the computer.
# tcexit reboot      Runs a backup and then reboots the computer.

filetool.sh -b

Did not know OpenWRT was 64bit on Pi3.
Thanks for that, now that the Pi4's are out I need to do something with my 3's.
Battlemesh is interesting.

Going to be interesting to see how long it takes for a Pi4 2711/A72 version.

Some big software apps like d...

We need to get back to what the open-vm-tools "service" does and does not do. The service daemon vmtoolsd communicates with the host for things like status, time sync and power off. This is the only program run as root. The rest of the programs are use...

I modified /root/.profile to run the tc login through strace, but busybox isn't looking for anything on exit beyond .ash_history. So it's a kludge or nothing.

They'd matter if your label contains spaces, for example. Though labels with spaces may cause issues elsewhere, it's not recommended to have such.

/opt/shutdown.sh has this comment:

# put user shutdown commands here

So originally it was "probably" intended as the place for additional shutdown commands?

Hi.  Which extra repo are you using in /opt/debextra for firefox so I can try to reproduce?  Thanks.
